When I’m out walking a property with a homeowner at dusk, they usually start the conversation by talking about “curb appeal.” They want their home to stand out on the block, and they want those beautiful architectural details to pop after the sun goes down.

But as a licensed electrician, when I look at a dark yard, I’m seeing more than just a missed design opportunity. I’m seeing a safety and security gap that we can fix.

Lighting as Your First Line of Defense

We often think of security as cameras and alarms, but light is actually your most effective deterrent. A well-lit home is a “hard target.”

Beyond security, there’s the simple matter of safety. We’ve all done it—fumbled for keys in the dark or tried to navigate a set of front steps by the dim glow of a smartphone. It shouldn’t be that way.

“My goal isn’t just to make your home look like a showroom; it’s to make sure that when your kids are playing in the backyard or your guests are leaving after dinner, they aren’t worried about where they’re stepping. Good lighting is about confidence.”

— Matt Cheshier, Co-Owner

The “Set It and Forget It” Strategy

One of the things I love most about modern outdoor lighting is that it has become incredibly smart. We can install photocell sensors that know exactly when the sun sets, or smart timers that adjust themselves as the seasons change.

If you’re still walking to the front door and flipping a manual switch every evening, you’re working too hard. We can put your home’s exterior on “autopilot” so that it’s bright when you need it and energy-efficient when you don’t.

Why LED is the Only Way to Go

If you have old halogen floodlights, you probably know the frustration of seeing them burn out every few months. Not only do they eat up power, but they’re usually mounted in places that require a 12-foot ladder just to change a bulb.

When we upgrade a home to LED technology, we’re giving you fixtures that last for 25,000 to 50,000 hours. That is years of maintenance-free light. Plus, they stay cool to the touch, which is much better for your plants and mulch.

Let’s Light It Up

Whether you’re looking to secure your perimeter or you just want to enjoy your patio after dark without being driven inside, we’re here to help. I’m often available the same day or next day to come out, walk your property with you, and show you exactly what’s possible.

Ready to see your home in a whole new light? Give us a shout. We’d love to help you transform your property.
